Overture to La Forza del Destino

The original La Forza del Destino (1862) premiered with a fairly simple prelude, but in 1869, Verdi extensively reworked the entire opera, including writing this full scale Overture.  Not only does it give hint and highlight to the themes of the opera (for example,

but most memorable is its emotive strength – once the Overture launches into its first theme, you are swept up in Verdi’s swirling currents of Destiny.
